The Flash Fujica AF Date is an evolution of the Fujica Flash AF (presented at the Photokina '78).
It is the Fujica answer to the Konica innovation, its C35 AF. It also uses the same focus system, the Visitronic. To develop this camera, Fuji is started from the Fujica Flash II.
Compared to the Visitronic system, Fuji has introduced an interesting improvement. Indeed the Visitronic system did not work in darkness, so flash photography was flawed. Fuji added a red lamp that illuminates the subject to three meters when the flash is activated and when we press slightly on the release button. The lighting is powerful enough to enable the Visitronic to work. The second advantage of this lamp is that it avoids red eye.
At the same Photokina'78 were introduced Yashica Diary and Konica Auto-Date. I am unable to say whether the release of the "date" variant of Fujica was simultaneous with the “standard” one (and therefore the Yashica and Konica ones) or if it is a late reply to competition. In short, the system is not original, especially as other previous cameras (including at Fuji) already include it.
This system consists of three wheels (not graduated, the details appear in the viewfinder) that allow you to set the date on which inscribes the negative.
This camera uses two AA batteries (or LR6). It has no motordrive for the film, or rewinding.
This model, whether or not the Date variant, is the evolution of the 1976 variant, which was not equipped with autofocus.
